Legal Research Intern
Former Programme Management & Reporting Officer, European Commission Master's Degrees in China Studies and International Relations, Zhejiang University and University of Turin (Italy).

Biography

Daniele Gallina is a Researcher in Economics, Science, Technology and Innovation at the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), where he supports the UN Programme on Space Applications, focusing on AI markets, dual-use space infrastructure, and governance. He holds two Master's degrees, in Business and China Studies from Zhejiang University and in International Relations, China and Global Studies from the University of Turin, alongside a Certificat d'Études Politiques from Sciences Po Toulouse and a Bachelor's in International Relations of Development and Cooperation from the University of Turin.

His research centres on the intersection of space governance, artificial intelligence, and geopolitics. He is preparing a chapter for SGAC, "AI and the New Space Economy: Autonomy, Markets, and Governance," examining AI-driven automation and dual-use security concerns across EU, Chinese and US regulatory approaches, drawing on interviews with industry and policy experts. His master's thesis, "How China Will Shape Outer Space," analysed China's civil-military-commercial space model and its governance implications, while his bachelor's thesis examined the Outer Space Economy through the case of Aerospace Valley, Toulouse.

Daniele's professional background bridges EU institutional administration and field operations. He previously worked as a Programme Management & Reporting Officer at the European Commission's DG EAC, handling policy and financial operations for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, and as a Reporting Officer for the FAO's Sri Lanka Technical Cooperation Programme, producing policy briefs and data visualisation. Since 2023, he has also served as a Search and Rescue Officer with MareGo Zusammenland in the Central Mediterranean, coordinating communications and space-navigation technology while leading as paramedic on rescue operations, experience that grounds his research in the operational realities of maritime and humanitarian crisis response. He speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese.

Alongside his research, which focuses in particular on the Chinese and EU space economies, Daniele has pursued his passion for investigative journalism, reporting and writing for internationally renowned newspaper outlets, including for the think tank COSMO, focused on the SWANA region. His reporting investigates the root causes of global irregular migration and the political criminalisation of solidarity, and he has acted as a key negotiator on human rights, the rule of law, and international maritime law.
