Biography
Asiimwe Joshua Opota is a Lawyer and Policy Professional spanning legal advocacy, aviation and space law, policy analysis and institutional management. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Uganda Christian University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
He serves as Legal Officer at the Igoye Young Professional Mentorship Institute (IYPMI) and is a member of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) under the Space Law and Policy Project Group, where he serves as a researcher. He co-leads the Gender and Equality Project and currently serves as the National Point of Contact (NPoC) for Uganda at SGAC.
Asiimwe has participated in research and policy discussions on space law and governance in Uganda, with a focus on regulatory frameworks for emerging space economies and downstream space applications for sustainable development.
Previously, he led IYPMI’s Counter-Trafficking Program, where he coordinated nationwide campaigns, community sensitization, and advocacy initiatives to combat trafficking in persons in Uganda.
